Nursery and Reception
The Early Years are critical in a child's development and so we provide a stimulating and high quality early years environment. Within a structured program of play and learning activities, the social, emotional, moral, physical and intellectual needs of every child are met. St Joseph's Preparatory School Early Years Department contains two classes, Nursery and Reception. They are proud to be a leading nursery in Stoke-on-Trent.We understand how important it is to choose the right nursery, they feel we offer something very different to other nurseries in Stoke-on-Trent and that is the Catholic ethos we employ.The Early Years Department is a special place, where imagination comes alive, talents are nurtured and friendships are fostered. It is a happy vibrant place where your child's days are filled with fun and laughter.

Reception, Pre-Prep One, Pre-Prep Two
The curriculum in the Pre-Prep Department is designed to give pupils a good general education both academic and practical in the core curriculum over 3 years, with special emphasis being put on English, Mathematics and Science. Children are given opportunity to experience subjects such as History, Geography, Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education, French, Religious Education, Art and Information and Communication Technology. The Pre-Preparatory Department contains 3 classes - Reception, Pre-Prep One and Pre-Prep Two.Learning to socialise is an essential part of education and we try to promote awareness of self and sensitivity to others, which are necessary qualities for good personal relationships. Through prayers, stories, songs and other curriculum areas the children develop morally, socially and emotionally within a caring Christian environment where the emphasis is very much on caring for each other. All children take part in daily prayer and the school celebrates Mass regularly throughout each term. 

Prep 3, Prep 4, Prep 5 and Prep 6
The Preparatory Department timetable is designed to keep children’s eager and inquisitive minds fully occupied, and to give them a secure grounding on which to build their future educational success. The Department is traditional in its insistence upon high standards of work, appearance, punctuality, manners and behaviour. The curriculum is designed to give pupils a sound academic education in the core curriculum over 4 years with special emphasis being on English, Mathematics and Science. These are complemented by Design Technology, History, Geography, Religious Education, Music, Art, Physical Education, Information Technology, French and Spanish. Latin and Classics are also offered as part of the curriculum.

Alton Castle
Alton Castle is the Catholic Youth Retreat Centre for the Archdiocese of Birmingham where children have the opportunity to experience an annual residential visit. During the trip, the children are able to take part in many varied activities including orienteering, trekking, wall climbing, art and IT, as well as having times for reflection, music, discussion groups and prayer services.
