Glyn School is leading State Secondary school in Epsom. This is a Non-selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Boys
Glyn is a vibrant community where students flourish. We strive to ensure that all young people will leave Glyn as well-rounded individuals who have reached their potential, both academically and personally, to enable them to continue on their next journey, whatever that may be. I believe that every student has a talent and can experience success as they develop into young adults. Glyn School is a vibrant school for boys aged 11 to 16, and a successful mixed Sixth Form. Founded in 1927, we have a rich history of academic excellence, sporting prowess, artistic achievement and service to the community. The school carries the responsibility of being graded ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2009 and in 2012. In 2014 we were designated a Teaching School, one of a select number that represent the most outstanding and innovative practice nationally. We were also awarded SCITT status in 2015. Finally, we have the privilege and responsibility of being a founder member of GLF schools, a Multi Academy Trust (MAT) where the focus on collaboration, leadership and school improvement enables students to ‘Grow, Learn and Flourish`.
Curriculum
The basic features of the school’s curriculum follow the guidance outlined in the Academies Funding Agreement. It ensures that a broad and balanced curriculum is provided to our students, incorporating English, Maths and Science qualifications along with the provision of religious education at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 and with regard for guidance on relationship and sex education issued by the Secretary of State. The broad context of the students attending Glyn School means we believe that our curriculum should be financially sustainable and shaped in a way that is right for our students. To this end, our curriculum balances a core curriculum aligned with our values, alongside students’ freedom to choose what is right for them. Curriculum allocation and mapping supports outcomes in English, Maths and Science, which significantly impact on the life opportunities of young people. Teaching contact time in these subject areas reflects this.
Sixth Form
The Post-16 journey is extremely important and they are proud to provide the students with an exceptionally comprehensive provision that caters for students of all abilities. We work hard to ensure that the time spent in Years 12 and 13 is not only academically challenging, but also richly rewarding and highly enjoyable. We are also fortunate to benefit from outstanding parental support and this ensures that communication between home and school is frequent and effective.
Extracurricular
They are very proud of the extracurricular provision. Students have a plethora of opportunities outside of the classroom. Activities from Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) Bronze, Silver and Gold, a full range of Music clubs, a diverse set of sports, or students can simply take advantage of the Board Games Club in the LRC at lunchtime!
