Description

Hampton School is recognised as one of the leading academic boys’ schools in the UK.  Although it became a State Grammar School in 1910, it reverted to Independent status in 1975.

Hampton school is connected to the Hampton Pre-Prep and Prep Schools. You son can start at Age 3 to 18 at Hampton Schools.

Facilities

The School’s buildings and grounds are maintained to the highest standards ensuring our pupils enjoy the use of first-class facilities, including a state-of-the-art 3G all-weather sports ground, large multi-purpose sports hall and a professional standard Performing Arts theatre, The Hammond Theatre.

Generous teaching resources enhance lessons and students have access to a fully-equipped library, and specialist facilities for Art, Science, Technology and Languages.

The site of 29 acres (120,000 m2) accommodates playing fields comprising four rugby pitches, seven football pitches, six cricket squares, three astroturf and three acrylic tennis courts, a 3G Astroturf multi-purpose football/rugby pitch, athletics facilities, two rock walls and the Old Hamptonians' Pavilion. The school also owns a boathouse on the Thames, the Millennium Boathouse, to accommodate for rowing practice.

In 2019, 159 pupils headed to Rusell Group Universities with 28 going to Oxbridge. 

55 boys are currently on completely free places with an aim to increase this to 100 by 2025.

Admission Details

11+ Entry

 

Entry is via the School’s own entrance exam and applicants are tested in English, Mathematics and Words & Reasoning in the January prior to entry. Places are awarded in February and acceptances required in March.

  • Closing date for registration :  1 November 2020
  • 11+ Entrance and Scholarship Examination: Wednesday 6 January 2021

The written examination consists of three papers:

  • English Response & Composition (30 minutes x 30 minutes)
  • Words & Reasoning (40 minutes)
  • Mathematics (55 minutes)

School Reference:  Approximately eight weeks before the entrance exam we shall write to your son’s current headteacher to request a confidential report in support of his application.

Interview:  Boys showing potential in the written assessments are invited for interview with a member of our teaching staff. The interview is an important part of our decision making process and provides boys with a further opportunity to shine. The interviews are general in nature and usually last around 20 minutes. Not all boys who sit the written assessments are invited for interview and not all boys interviewed are offered a place.

Offer: Places are awarded in mid-February and a non-refundable deposit of £1,600 is required to accept the offer of a place. Acceptances are required in early March.

Scholarships

Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to boys on merit and recognise talent and potential in a particular field. Academic, Art, Chess, Music, Performing Arts and Sport Scholarships are available to boys joining the First Year at 11+ and the Third Year at 13+. 

Choral Scholarships are available for boys joining at 11+ and are awarded in conjunction with the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court Palace.

The number and value of scholarship awards varies from year to year, but they typically involve a fee remission of between 5% and 25% of tuition fees.  Honorary awards without accompanying fee remission may also be awarded.  Scholarships are not means-tested.

 

Bursaries

Bursaries are means-tested financial awards which provide parents with a percentage reduction in the School fees. The value of the award, which may be for up to 100% of the tuition fees, is related to a family’s financial circumstances. Details at School website
