Welcome to Hockerill Anglo-European College. We passionately believe that every student deserves the opportunity to be the best they can be and that our school gives them that opportunity. We are a state co-educational day and boarding school for students aged 11 to 18 and offer our students a dynamic, vibrant and exciting learning environment where development of the whole student is our priority. The College offers a rigorous and broad curriculum, and is proud to be one of the largest state schools offering the prestigious International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma programmes. With a twin focus on the two specialisms of Languages and Music, Hockerill offers a truly distinct setting for a world-class education. Located in beautiful grounds on the edge of Bishop’s Stortford the school is in close proximity to London and the South East of England and accepts applications for boarding and day places from students with a current UK passport or the right to residency in the UK.
 

Facilities

7-9 Years
Hockerill Anglo-European College offers a unique academic experience, proudly teaching the International Baccalaureate’s Middle Years Programme at Key Stage 3 and Diploma Programme in the Sixth Form. The Middle Years Programme is followed by all students in Years 7-9, with most students being taught two modern foreign languages (French. German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish are on offer).  

9-10 Years
At Hockerill we are extremely proud of our bilingual curriculum. In Year 7 all students are taught Music in either French or German. Most students are also taught History and Geography in French and German during Year 9 and 10.  

10-11 years
Year 10 and 11 students are prepared for GCSEs. However, subjects are still taught through the ‘Approaches to Teaching and Learning’ methodology of the International Baccalaureate. Concept-based learning through global contexts remains key to the students’ learning.  GCSE attainment and progress are high at the College and put Hockerill among the top performers nationally in the league tables.

Range of activities
Apart from sport, our wide repertoire of other extra-curricular activities encourages a high level of participation from both boarders and day students, during the week and at weekends. 
These include:-
• regular cultural visits to concerts, theatres, exhibitions and museums locally or in nearby cities such as Cambridge and London
• our own College Choir and Orchestra
• lively and popular drama presentations featuring works by modern and classical playwrights
• an active Combined Cadet force
• frequent formal events such as Dinners, Balls, a traditional Christmas Carol Service and Speech Day
• the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme.

Admission Details

Applying to Hockerill Anglo-European College
Hockerill Anglo-European College has two main intake years: Year 7 and Year 12. As a state school, applicants to Hockerill will need to have a British passport or a residency visa which entitles the holder to education in a UK state school.  The College may require proof of eligibility before processing an application.  

Sixth Form
They offer day and boarding places in the Sixth Form and welcome applications from both external and internal students. Students follow the highly regarded International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and our students are offered a range of opportunities second to none.

In Year Admissions
Entry into other year groups depends on there being a vacancy in the year group. In year applicants should use the day or boarding Year 7 SIF which are available as downloads below.  We will respond to your application in writing within 15 school days.  If you have any queries about In Year admissions, please contact the Registrar via [email protected].  For in year day places, please also apply via Hertfordshire County Council.
