Kew College is Independent Primary school in Richmond upon Thames for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
They are so proud of this warm and caring school and we take great pride in all our children who are such excellent ambassadors for the school. They are a purposeful, hardworking and nurturing school which keeps the children at the heart of everything we do. We seek to develop our children into independent and critical thinkers with a natural curiosity to learn and discover. Our children are confident whilst maintaining a sense of their place in today’s changing world. They are respectful, kind, responsible, hard-working, fun-loving and well-rounded individuals with a gracious sense of humility who thrive in the ethos of a school that allows them to take risks in their learning and set challenges for themselves. They take great care to ensure that all of our children are celebrated and that their talents and amazing qualities are recognised and developed so that they leave us at the end of Year 6 with a firm sense of their own strengths and the self-belief to tackle the next phase of their education with energy and drive. We value the whole curriculum; our children frequently excel in sport and the arts as well as the academic subjects and this often leads to scholarship awards to secondary schools.
EYFS
The youngest members of our school enter Kew College in Nursery. Their classrooms are designed around the EYFS curriculum, offering ample space and resources to support children's learning and development at the very beginning of their school lives. Our dedicated teachers create learning areas that are bright and stimulating, with an atmosphere of warmth, happiness and encouragement.A child's experience in the Early Years has a major impact on their future life and learning, therefore, we want your child to enjoy coming to school. Our aim is to make every day a joyful, positive and creative experience. We help to support your child's curiosity and independence, giving them the confidence to blossom. As well as addressing the academic aspects of the curriculum, we teach our children about the importance of friendship, to care for and respect each other, to value co-operation and to be tolerant of all differences. We aim to give all of our children the best possible start in life and the support to reach their potential.
Year 1 and 2
Years 1 and 2 build on the secure foundation established in EYFS, gradually moving to a more formal learning approach by Year 2. Each class is taught by their own class teacher for the majority of the week. This allows teachers to really get to know each pupil and to support them to achieve their full potential. Particular attention is given to developing numeracy and literacy skills.Lessons are engaging and stimulating. Children are encouraged to play an active role in their learning, to think for themselves and to make connections with their own experiences and the world around them. Our pupils develop a passion for reading through regular individual reading sessions and group or class reading lessons, which allow stories to be shared and responded to collectively. Pupils progress through the Rigby Star Reading Scheme, which incorporates both fiction and non-fiction books. They look forward to their weekly visits to the school library where they borrow books and enjoy interactive stories read by our enthusiastic librarian. Children are inspired to explore different genres as well as pursuing their own interests.
Extra Curricular Activities
A wide range of after school clubs is available to children in Year 1 and 2 each term. Some of these activities are led by Kew College members of staff, while others are led by outside providers and parent volunteers. We try to plan our extra curricular clubs to cater for the variety of interests of our pupils. Many of the clubs are open to mixed year groups, giving opportunities for our children to make new friends and to work with children of different ages.
