Broomfield House School

Description

Broomfield House School is Independent Primary school in Richmond upon Thames for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

At Broomfield House they are academically ambitious for your children and tailor our teaching to the needs of every child through highly differentiated lessons and our unique Individual Learning Enhancement programme. We aim to unlock children’s potential, foster their independence and encourage them to love learning, to develop their own ideas and confidently articulate their own opinions. We run a wide curriculum and a broad range of extra-curricular activities with a view to helping our children find the things that will give them joy forever.Broomfield is a family school in every sense. We have many pupils whose parents, and even grandparents, attended Broomfield themselves. However, we also pride ourselves on being a friendly and inclusive academic family which welcomes pupils and their parents from all over the world, and maintains close and long-lasting relationships with many of them when they move on to other countries and schools.

Facilities

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
In Broomfield we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.  They aim to teach the children through fun activities and play, although much of our teaching is a little more focussed than you would find in many nurseries and reception classes.  There are lots of opportunities for creativity and you will find lots of lovely arts and crafts coming home to decorate your walls.  As well as an emphasis on the start of reading, writing and maths, we work with the children to develop their fine and gross motor skills and build core body strength.

Prep
At Broomfield they aim to inspire the children to love to learn, to develop enquiring minds and be independent thinkers.  They want them to begin to think about what they enjoy and what motivates them in life.  A curious child will never be bored and we want to offer a stimulating environment to help children discover what interests them.  With this in mind, our Prep School curriculum is broad, covering the Creative Arts, Humanities, Computing,  Languages and Sports as well as the core curriculum of English, Maths and Science. The school is structured into various learning stages, beginning with Early Years, transitioning into Year 1 before moving into Lower Prep (Years 2-4) and Senior Prep (Years 5-6).

Features

Things to note

Sport
They believe that sport should be fun, progressive and encourage a real life long love of both individual pursuits and team based games. Competition, team work, leadership and an all important competitive edge are all encouraged through a broad and balanced sports offering. We believe sport should be inclusive and give all children a chance to perform at their very best while receiving the very highest of sports coaching and encouragement.

Art
The art room is a very different space to that of other classrooms. paints, canvases, sketchbooks and aprons fill the benches when our pupils work freely in expressing their ideas and thoughts in a creative way. Individuality is encouraged, as is self-expression with all pupils given the tools and expertise to complete a range of wonderful projects.

Music
Music at Broomfield is at the very centre of school life. Our children’s Music education is characterised by a growing appreciation and understanding of a wide range of music drawn from different traditions and from great composers and musicians. From Early Years onwards, the children develop their sense of rhythm, volume and pitch through music and movement. Older children learn how to sing in harmony as well as read, write and perform their own music.

Drama
The whole world is a stage, and all the men and women merely actors. They have their exits and their entrances and in a lifetime we will play many parts, our life separated into several acts. Treading the boards, creating a character, growing in confidence, gaining self-esteem and demonstrating theatrical wonder are all part of our drama curriculum. Our regular school productions give everyone the chance to take part with pupils playing essential parts on the stage, backstage or part of the school’s in-house technical team.
