Landmark International School

Description

Landmark International School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 4 to 16 (Gender - 4 to 16 )

Landmark is a not for profit, co-educational international school that caters for students from reception in primary school to year 11 in secondary school. In the primary school (Reception to year 6) they follow a transdisciplinary model of learning using themes to support our students in understanding the interconnectedness of disciplines and the world around them. In the lower secondary (year 7-9) they teach in disciplines and work closely together to make interdisciplinary connections. They support project and service based learning as a part of the taught curriculum through Sustainable Development Goal and STEM lessons. In the upper secondary we continue to develop the whole learner, placing project and service based learning at the forefront of what we do as we prepare our students for the GCSE and IGCSE examinations and for the next steps after Landmark.Throughout the school they put the student at the centre of their learning. Overall, a Landmark education provides a human-centred approach to learning, ensuring that each individual is nurtured to be self-directed creative thinkers that contribute to making their communities and the world around them a better place.

Facilities

Primary
In the primary they follow a holistic model of learning using themes to support our students in understanding the connections of their learning to the world around them. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students. Over the next two school years (2021-2023) they will be introducing the International Baccalaureate PYP curriculum into the primary curriculum as part of the candidacy phase. If you want to learn more about the IB PYP you can contact our PYP Coordinator Jenna Fritz. In each year of Primary, the students will explore relevant and engaging themes through a transdisciplinary approach to learning. The subject areas are integrated in order to enable authentic and relevant experiences, developing meaningful connections to their learning.

Secondary
In the lower secondary (year 7-9) we teach in disciplines and work closely together to make interdisciplinary connections.  The syllabus for the the individual subjects is developed by the teachers to best suit the student needs, ensure the curriculum is relevant to events that are occurring in the world around them and prepare them for the next steps in their education. This is done through using resources such as the national curriculum, Cambridge Lower Secondary Curriculum and White Rose Maths to best support our choices in creating a rich curriculum for our students. In addition to the more traditional subjects we enrich learning through two additional classes CREST and projects, in which students are provided with choice around what they learn.

Things to note

GCSE Results and Next Steps
Last summer (2020) the students achieved 100% A* to C grades or 9 to 4 grades across all the examinations taken. Over 50% of the students achieved 100% A* or 10 or more GCSEs at A* to A. Several students in the group had taken a number of examinations early. Before the summer of 2020 our year 11s had already achieved one 9, three 8s and a 6 in Mathematics (the equivalent of four A*s and a B), across the languages (French, German and Latin) they had achieved the equivalent of three A*, an A and a B in GCSE history.  All of the graduating students gained entry into all of their first choice sixth forms. By providing such a range of opportunities for the students they ensure that they reach their potential and they develop the whole learner to best support them for their next steps after Landmark.
