Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Penrith is leading State Secondary school in Penrith. This is a Selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Mixed

This is a busy, happy and successful school with well motivated and conscientious pupils, a highly experienced and committed teaching staff, and outstanding parental support. We have a very clear recognition here between teachers and pupils that we are on the same side, we are working together. We all share the same vision to do our best to ensure that everyone achieves their full potential in the time they are in the school. Queen Elizabeth Grammar School is about taking the best aspects of the traditional grammar school ethos and blending them with the most useful elements of good practice in modern education.The grammar school ethos is about offering an academic curriculum, encouraging our pupils to have high aspirations and working in a disciplined environment which has a high regard for the community, for honesty and mutual respect. There is considerable extra-curricular provision in sport and the performing and creative arts. We also have an extensive programme of educational visits.

Curriculum
Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS) is a coeducational selective grammar school in Penrith, Cumbria, England. The school currently has approximately 830 pupils. The current headteacher is Mr Paul Buckland, who took over in September 2015. The headteacher from September 2004 to August 2015 was Mr Chris Kirkup.Each year group is split on to four forms that have usually 32 students each. Each form is identified by the academic year followed by the initials of the form tutor who is usually a teacher at the school (i.e. 7JB). Students are also divided into one of the school's four houses; Blencow, Strickland, Lowther and Tudor, which are mainly used for sport events.

Sixth Form
Unlike Years 10 and 11 where you had to study a large number of subjects, you have now chosen 3/4 academic subjects in which you have an interest and proven ability. Consequently, staff will be expecting a very enthusiastic and committed approach to work.You are responsible for managing your time much more. Year 12 is a stepping-stone between formal school and further study, probably at university, where you will be an independent learner. In the Sixth Form, you have to undertake background reading and study in support of your subjects.They advise that you spend a minimum of two hours a day on private study.
