St Michael's Prep School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 2 to 13 (Gender - 2 to 13 )
St Michael’s is a school where children come running in each morning and don’t want to leave at the end of the day! It is a place where each unique individual is known, valued and loved. They are proud of the academic success and the achievements of the pupils and whilst they expect the best from each of them, there is grace for mistakes, and they encourage the children to give things a try. This is an essential part of the pupils’ learning and growing process, helping them to develop character and skills vital for the next step of their journey and indeed lives. The staff team at Pre-Prep is a strong and supportive one. They work closely with the parents to ensure the children are safely nurtured both at home and at school. All of the children who join the in the Nursery, have access to dedicated staff for music and PE. This ensures their creative and sporting talents are developed from a very young age.
Nursery
Nursery is where the wonderful learning journey at St Michael’s starts. Children in Nursery join our loving and nurturing team, where they are provided with endless opportunities to develop and explore their independence, language, social skills and ideas. They have full access to the indoor and outdoor areas and develop creativity, imagination and critical thinking skills; all areas are equipped with high quality resources and furnishing, designed to stimulate. From the comfort of a close team, and personal key worker, your child has access to a range of carefully planned, play-based activities aimed at captivating them and developing their skills in all of learning areas.
Year 1
Year 1 marks the beginning of the National Curriculum, where we build upon the firm foundations put in place by Reception. Your child will follow topic-based learning, which offers a fun and exciting way to find out about new subjects across the curriculum. In this way they have the opportunity to explore subjects in greater depth and in ways that are memorable and relevant to them.
Year 2
Year 2 is the final year in Pre-Prep before the children move up to Prep school. We continue to focus on English and Mathematics where we set the groundwork with the basic skills the children will need to succeed through the rest of their academic lives.During the course of the year they engage in three major topics, which each span a term. Over Michaelmas term, the children study ‘Amazing Animals’ where they look at animals both locally and across different continents of the world. Lent term’s topic is ‘Famous Faces’,
Prep
The curriculum at St Michael’s Preparatory School is creative, engaging and exciting: it inspires personalised learning and progressive thinking for each and every individual. Each child in the Pre-Prep and Prep areas of the school is stimulated by the activities they cover to experience joy and wonder in their learning and their teachers aim to expand their developing minds in order to achieve their full potential.
Pre-Prep Activities
Some of the happiest memories children have of school are of the fun they had in after-school Activities. To see children after a busy day of learning, excited by the chance to dance or build dens or play football is a parent’s dream. They provide Year group-based activities for children, where they can choose what they would like to do in the classroom or the garden throughout the year. Lego, painting, cinema time and junk modelling are all popular. The children as a group are able to choose from a range of activities each day.
Pre-Prep Music
Music is important to us and they love to sing, move, play and listen through the school day. In our music lessons they all learn how to play the chime bars, recorders and a variety of mixed, untuned percussion. They can read rhythms and read music using a variety of notation as well as standard notation. They can write our own rhythms and perform them in groups and they can use instruments to help us to tell stories.
PE and Games
They love being active and playing games in Pre-Prep! They are lucky enough to have a big hall and lots of outdoor space to use for the PE and Games lessons. Your child will find a magic cupboard, full of resources with everything from balls in all different sizes, to dance scarves and ribbons, to bean bags, frisbees and hoops. When your child leaves Pre-Prep, they will have learnt a huge number of different sports, both team and individual. These include; gymnastics, dance, music and movement, netball, benchball, football, mini tennis, tag rugby, mini hockey, cricket, rounders and athletics.
