S Hill Ave, Harrow HA1 3NU, United Kingdom
4-13 Years

Description

Orley Farm School is Independent Secondary school in Selective for kids aged 4 to 13 (Gender - 4 to 13 )

Orley Farm has evolved since September 1850 from a boarding school for boys preparing for Harrow, to a co-educational, vibrant, day school that specialises in preparing children for their own journey through life. They took the old school aims that were divided into headings for pupils, parents and teachers and asked the school council to review them. The pupils came up with 3 definitions for the pillars that support this school and having taken them to the governors, we are excited to be adopting aspirational aims that have been written by our pupils for everyone in our community!

Facilities

English
In English lessons at Orley Farm, learners will embark on metaphorical journeys to places such as the Amazon rainforest, the bloody battlefields of World War One, the bleak heaths of Macbeth’s Scotland and the island inhabited by stranded schoolboys in Golding’s classic novel. They will explore a range of carefully selected class readers, engage in thought-provoking classroom debates and discussions, learn how to critically analyse and engage with texts and feel increasingly confident in independently tackling comprehension and assessment questions, alongside enjoying our state-of-the-art library facilities. Our English teachers are full of passion for all aspects of the subject and strive to inspire learners to feel the same way!

Science
Science is everywhere, it is fascinating and creates memories! This is why, our approach to teaching Science is practical-based, multi-sensory and incorporates a range of learning and teaching styles from Reception to Year 8.At Orley Farm we strongly believe that scientific literacy is a key element for success in later life. We also are passionate about making Science fun. Through practical work we start to inspire children from an early age. This helps to ignite students’ scientific curiosity and enables them to develop the investigative skills which are not only necessary for their next step in education but play a key role in fostering informed and engaged citizens who are ready to tackle the challenges of our future!

Geography
Geography at Orley Farm is driven by reality; the leaders of the future are in our classrooms and the future of the planet is in their hands. We understand the importance of developing a love of learning about the world around us and an appreciation of how our choices must be carefully considered as we each have an impact.Geography across the school is taught through a range of cross curricular links that illuminate its relevance in our 21st Century world. We collaborate with thinking skills such as good judgement, create learning experiences for writing and discover real scientific concepts through physical geographical learning.

Drama
Drama plays a significant and valuable role at Orley Farm, both as a curriculum subject for every pupil from Reception to year 8 and as an exciting extra-curricular opportunity. The department aims to create an encouraging and inclusive environment for study in which pupils can ‘find their voice’; raise their self-esteem, develop self-confidence, trust and the ability to work collaboratively – not only in performance but also in their day to day interaction with others.

Maths
The Mathematics Department at Orley Farm School provides its pupils with a solid grounding in the subject.  We not only successfully prepare pupils for the various entrance examinations of senior schools, but also encourage them to appreciate the inherent beauty of the subject as well as see it in the context of its many real world applications. The boys and girls are taken beyond the confines of the curriculum through involvement in various competitions such as the Primary Mathematics Challenge and Junior Mathematics Challenge, attendance at talks given by senior school teachers and participation in our annual Mathematics Day.

History
At Orley Farm they aim to inspire our pupils with the events, people and inventions that have shaped the modern world. Pupils learn to research, question, communicate and make sense of the complexities of Great Britain and its place in the world. Our goal is for all pupils to be fascinated by the past and to be prepared to be successful adults who will make a positive difference to the communities they live and work in.

Features

Things to note

The Edge Programme
Orley Farm has a rich history but this is not what makes us unique!  We pride ourselves on educating pupils beyond entrance exams.  Our curriculum is designed to offer breadth in order that we are not simply another London Day School that crams a child to clear the bar.  OFS pupils are three dimensional, with curiosity for learning and the skills to fuel that thirst; a moral compass that offers values for life and a co-curricular programme that embeds a desire to always look for new interests.

Orley Farm Greenpower
Orley Farm joined the Green Power challenge in 2019 when two teams of pupils pitched the merits of this venture along with a business plan to a panel of parents from the OFA, asking for funding.  Since that day, this has continued to be future blueprint for educational projects.

Clubs & Hobbies
Clubs and hobbies are generally delivered by the teaching staff at lunch time or after school. Each term different variations will be offered. In the Pre-Prep a variety of hobbies are offered to pupils from Year 2. These are timetabled after school on various days of the week. In Years 3 and 4 the children are offered a number of different options and these can range from Lego, Fencing and Karate. For Years 5 to 8 the hobbies run from 16:30 to 17:30 every day and there are a vast number of options over the space of five evenings. A changing list can include table tennis, fencing, cheerleading, board games and gymnastics alongside all of the major sports of that term make up a very wide ranging selection and the children are allowed to choose more than one.

Playtime
Time to relax is vital and at Orley Farm we consider playtime to be an essential part of children’s well-being. From Pre-Prep up children are taught the playground rules of safe play and the Buddy Bus Stop is a fabulous way of ensuring no one is left alone.Children are able to enjoy the grounds and equipment is provided to encourage team games and group play. The table tennis tables are always busy and Fives is a playground must!Equally, quiet areas are also provided for those who want to sit and chat rather than a run around.
