Early Years Team
They want new families to feel a warm welcome to William Gilbert. They want to give families an opportunity to visualise the school setting and get a glimpse into life at William Gilbert School and the Reception Year; They want to give families the opportunity to share any worries, concerns, and excitement, and ask questions as they would in a face-to-face induction; They want families to start to become familiar with, and to get to know staff, and for staff to begin to build relationships with families; They want some level of two-way communication, not just school giving information; They want to help children to start to feel familiar with the Reception environment; Most of all, they want families and children to feel a sense of belonging to the William Gilbert community.
Nursery
They aim to create a happy, secure and stimulating environment in which each child will be given opportunities to develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. The school and nursery promote the needs of each individual child, and through the expert guidance of our highly qualified and experienced Early Years staff, we will help your child to develop a wide range of pre-school skills. The Nursery curriculum is carefully planned and structured to encourage the development of these early skills through practical ‘play’ activities. Children’s progress is monitored and recorded so the needs of the ‘whole’ child can be met appropriately. Nursery children take part in school activities and become familiar with members of staff and school routine. The Nursery provides the best possible preparation for future life at school. We actively encourage a close partnership between home and school by working together to support your child’s needs.
Extra Curricular Activities
At William Gilbert they believe extra curricular activities play an important part of school life. A variety of clubs are offered voluntarily by staff and parents for our pupils to join and enjoy at lunchtimes or after school. In addition, many of our pupils also learn a musical instrument.Once children have joined a club they are expected to attend regularly. If they wish to leave a club or miss a session then a written note from a parent/carer to the adult in charge is required. Some clubs run only at certain times of the year and they are not guaranteed to run every week of the school year. Notice is always given if a club is to be cancelled and children can remain in school for their safety until collected.
