Alleyn's is one of the country’s leading HMC co-educational day schools, committed to achieving academic excellence within an ethos of strong pastoral care and a vibrant co-curriculum.
In 2019, we commemorated the 400th anniversary of our Founder Edward Alleyn's establishment of his College of God's Gift. To mark the occasion, we introduced the free-to-attend All@Alleyn's series of workshops and lectures, and launched The 400th Anniversary Campaign: Growing Bursaries for the Future, in support of our aim to double our means-tested bursaries provision.
A mainstream independent school for pupils aged from 11 to 18 with a linked junior school.
The School is known for its excellent pastoral care, and for encouraging pupils to engage in the widest possible range of co-curricular activities
Beyond the classroom, we foster the diverse range of hobbies and interests our pupils have with an exciting and extensive extra- and co-curricular programme of events. Two entire afternoons each week are dedicated to sport and pupils compete in fixtures against opposing teams in and around London, with cricket, football, netball and rowing being the School’s major competitive sports.
The School is renowned for its culture of music and theatre, and pupils are encouraged to take music lessons and to join orchestras, choirs and theatre projects. Whether it be a night-time opening of the School’s observatory, a lecture with an expert linguist, artist or sports personality, choral evensong in Chapel or a product design workshop, there is much going on throughout the year. Pupils can attend debating or MUN clubs, take part in inter-school general knowledge competitions, compete in an inter-House chess competition or play pool in their House common room. There are options available to each and every pupil, at any time of the day, to help supplement their academic education and to ensure that their development needs are met.
Selection Criteria: Selective
Online registration for potential admission at 11+ in September 2021 is now closed.
Places: 150
ISEB Common Pre-test : After much careful consideration of how we can safely and responsibly conduct our 11+ entrance examination this year, we have taken the decision to proceed with the ISEB Common Pre-test. This is an online test which will avoid the need for larger groups of children to attend the School site in person and thereby reduces the risk of Covid-19 transmission. For more information visit the ISEB information section further down this page.
During the assessment phases we gain an understanding of the whole child, so whilst there is a strong focus on academic ability and potential, we also want to understand what each individual will be able to take from the co-curricular life of the School. We offer around 150 places, with two-thirds of these new children joining from a wide spread of state and independent schools, and the remaining children joining from Alleyn's Junior School.
Report: In addition to the ISEB Common Pre-test, we shall ask all Head teachers to provide us with a confidential report on each of their pupils applying to Alleyn's, and these important assessments and insights will form a crucial element of our selection procedure.
Interview: We will also interview - virtually or in person at Alleyn's if conditions allow - those children whose assessment results and school report demonstrate that they will flourish both inside and outside of the classroom at Alleyn's.
