PREP
Rowan Hill is a special place where girls thrive in their individual learning and grow independent in their journey towards senior school.During their time at the Hill, our girls take part in a varied and exciting curriculum, whether it is exploring the range of topics that our STEM curriculum has to offer, investigating life as a Roman soldier, becoming a great problem solver in maths, using relevant and inspiring stimuli to write essays or finding out more about our local community in geography. Our class sizes are small and allow our subject teachers to plan fun and creative lessons where they are able to give each girl their individual attention.

Features

Things to note

SPORTS
EVERY GIRL BENEFITS FROM THE EXCEPTIONAL SPORTS PROVISION AT ROWAN. The PE, games and swimming curriculums are taught by subject specialists from Nursery to Year 6 with the girls acquiring knowledge, understanding and skills of a wide range of sports with fixtures and clubs available to all. Inter-house tournaments and galas reinforce the school’s ‘I can, I can, I know I can’ ethos and participation is encouraged through an inclusive programme that incorporates health-related fitness, gymnastics, dance, badminton, cricket, football, athletics, netball, hockey, lacrosse, pop-lacrosse, cross country and swimming. The value of teamwork, how effort can bring reward and dealing gracefully with both success and failure is learnt through friendly fixtures with other local schools – all important lifelong lessons.

PERFORMING ARTS
Performing arts play an important role at Rowan and the girls’ passion for music and drama is evident at their productions and music concerts, assemblies and church services in which they perform. The opportunities for participation and performance at all levels are endless. Year 1 girls benefit from the Rowan String Initiative, which offers them the option to learn to play either the violin or the ‘cello. This lays the foundation for an excellent appreciation of music as girls progress through the school. Exceptional visiting music teachers offer individual lessons on a wide range of orchestral instruments as well as, and not restricted to, the piano, percussion and electric or classical guitar.

CREATIVITY
Located in the old coach house, our spacious, well equipped art room is a bright, creative space in which the girls are introduced to a variety of media and techniques. Alongside the core strands of painting, drawing and clay work, the girls also explore silk painting, batik, weaving, modroc and printing.Whether it was Confucius, or not, who stated that ancient proverb: ‘I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.’ - the philosophy of art education here at Rowan Preparatory School is very much based on that of ‘doing’. In the age of digitisation, it is reassuring to see the fascination children still manifest when they explore and learn using natural materials and their own hands to make and create.

ENRICHMENT
THE WARMTH THAT IS EVIDENT WHEN YOU WALK THROUGH THE DOOR AT ROWAN CREATES THE IDEAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR GIRLS TO FULFIL THEIR POTENTIAL. This is a school where children feel safe and happy. They are nurtured and allowed to grow as individuals, empowered to be at the centre of their education and encouraged to take risks, explore and discover new skills and interests which will enrich their lives.
