Sacred Heart School is Independent Primary school in East Sussex for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
They would love to welcome you to our school for a visit where, I have no doubt, you will experience first-hand our warm and friendly environment. Sacred Heart School was established in 1938 by the Sisters of the Order of Notre Dame and the original school accommodated just 11 children. We now have pupil numbers of around 150 and welcome boys and girls from 2 to 11 years of age. As a small community, we know each child individually, we recognise and encourage their strengths and support them in overcoming areas of difficulty.
Key Stage 1
They manage the transition from a play-based Foundation Stage to Year 1 sensitively to ensure a seamless and confident move for all the children. During the end of the summer term and the first half of the autumn term, adjacent class teachers work closely together and interact with all the pupils so that they are familiar with each other, their classroom, resources and the curriculum.
Key Stage 2
Throughout KS2 pupils continue to gain skills, knowledge and understanding across the full range of primary curriculum subjects. Their studies are extended by the introduction of Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning skills from Y3 and a very child-friendly Latin Scheme, Minimus, in Years 5 and 6. Homework, begun very gently in Y1 with spelling tests and the addition of Maths in Y2, is a more formal feature of the KS2 programme with tasks being set each day for KS2 pupils.
Early Year Education Entitlement (EYEE)
Children who are in the Foundation Stage of the School (Nursery & Reception) and who are entitled to receive free early years education under the Government’s Early Years Education Entitlement (those who are between the ages of 3 and 5 years old
Parent and Toddler morning
They invite children who are not yet old enough to join us in the Nursery independently, to come along with their parents or carers for play and refreshments.
Club and Activities
At Sacred Heart School we provide a variety of clubs all year round. With the exception of Wednesdays which are reserved for sports fixtures and staff meetings we offer a choice of clubs for pupils in KS1 and in KS2 from the end of the school day through to 4.45pm. From Cooking to Karate, Spanish to Football, Animation, Quiz Club and Crochet and plenty of sport thrown into the mix there is something for everyone.
Music
Music is a vibrant, exciting and important part of school life. Class lessons are taught by our specialist music teacher, Mrs Wibberley. Children have many opportunities for music making in and out of school, singing in the church and school choir, the Tunbridge Wells Arts Festival, community events such as the combined schools choir for Rotary and entertaining the residents of local nursing homes at Christmas. Music making is enjoyed from Nursery to Year 6 and includes a mixture of traditional, classical and contemporary.
Sport
Boys and girls achieve a high level of skill under the excellent direction of our specialist games teacher. From the Foundation Stage, carefully planned activities enable the children to improve co-ordination and proficiency in basic skills which are transferred into games situations as they progress through the school.
Selection Criteria: Selective
The written word is no substitute for a visit to the school and we encourage parents to make this a priority when considering a place for their child.
A visit offers you the opportunity to see the school in session on a typical day during a tour with the Head Teacher; to chat to current pupils and staff and to judge for yourself the quality of teaching, learning and relationships within the school.
Following a visit the next step is a 'taster day' which is an opportunity for prospective pupils to discover at first hand what life at Sacred Heart School is really like and for us to assess informally how your child will settle into the school community.
Following the taster day we may make a firm offer. If you feel that Sacred Heart is the right school for your child, registration is the next step to secure your child's place.
