PRE-SCHOOL
The Pre-School is the beginning of your child’s learning journey at Beechwood Pre-Prep. Set within the beautiful grounds of Beechwood School our Pre-School provides a happy and nurturing environment where children are given the care and attention they need to blossom as individuals.Pastoral care of the children is at the forefront of all they do, and they understand how important it is to build a positive and strong relationship with our children, their families, and extended families from the outset. The highly trained and experienced staff offer every child the opportunity to learn and experience something new every day, be that in the classroom or outside within our fabulous grounds. The specialist provision also includes ensuring that children begin to learn phonics and Maths confidently in preparation for Pre-Prep, as well as participating in structured and guided play.
PREP
At Beechwood Prep they believe that school should be fun! They unashamedly make the happiness of the children paramount in all our decision-making. Personal development is valued as much as academic achievement with an emphasis on kindness and helpfulness central to all we do as a community.The school has a fine academic record with many pupils winning places at our strong local grammar schools but we also prepare for a range of independent secondary schools including our own excellent senior school here at Beechwood.The school is located in a wonderful setting in 23 acres of idyllic parkland in Tunbridge Wells. The grounds and gardens are an important learning resource with the school’s outdoor classroom being used all-year round. They encourage the boys and girls to participate in a wide range of activities both in and out of the classroom that help them develop skills such as resilience, problem solving, and co-operation.
KEY STAGE 3
They follow a broad curriculum in order to provide a balance that can stimulate the talents of every student. The core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science are taught throughout Years 7-11, together with Religious Education, Physical Education and Personal, Social, Citizenship and Health Education (PSCHE), which are compulsory for all year groups.Class sizes are small, with up to 20 students. Most groups are mixed ability, with some subjects, such as Mathematics, set by ability where it is educationally advantageous.Year 7 students take French and German or Spanish. International students who require additional English support will have EAL lessons instead of one or both European languages. The Design Technology programme includes product design, textiles, and food technology for both boys and girls.

SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES
Prep children experience a wide variety of sports in Games and PE lessons. There is a extensive range of clubs at lunchtime and after school, and there are opportunities to compete in a House or School team. Swimming is taught from Reception: for this we visit a local swimming pool.Pupils are provided with opportunities to experience a range of team and individual sports to help develop a broad base of interests. The emphasis is on fun, participation and team ethic and they look forward to regular fixtures against local schools, not just to test our skills but also to vote on the best match teas! Individual achievements recent years have included County Honours in cricket, rugby and chess.
MUSIC AND DRAMA
Beechwood is a co-educational, independent, day, weekly and full boarding school for pupils aged 3-18, comprising a Pre-Prep, Preparatory and Senior School. The vibrant Music department in the Prep school allows all students to experience a variety of music from different countries, genres and periods in history. Their experience in the classroom enables them to play a range of instruments, improvise, compose, sing and explore music technology using software such as Mixcraft and Cubase.
