Features

Things to note

  • Dance is a key part of Physical Education at Mayfield and all girls study Dance at Key Stage 3. Within the curriculum, Dance concentrates on achieving strong basic technical skills. The foundation of all Dance is ballet; each dance lesson has an element of classical movement, developing strength, balance and an understanding of how to use one’s body effectively.
  • Co-curricular Drama plays a big part in the life of Mayfield girls and we offer a range of activities and opportunities for all ages and abilities.
  • Co-curricular Music is a vital part of Mayfield life, with a prestigious and living tradition of choral and instrumental music, and regular concerts, both formal and informal, providing opportunities for performance to all girls.
  • Experienced and dynamic PE Department organises an extensive co and extra-curricular sporting programme, which encourages every girl to participate fully in sport and develop a lifelong healthy and balanced lifestyle.
  • The Textiles Department runs a busy co and cross curricular programme. The Studio is open in the evenings and at weekends so that students can work independently during their study periods and free time. They also encourage students to take part in national competitions such as the Royal Opera House Design Challenge. Cross-curricular links are made with subjects such as Chemistry (natural dyeing), and Maths (subtraction cutting).
