Facilities

NURSERY (AGES 3-4)
This is where it all starts, where those first positive experiences set your child up for a lifetime of learning. It is in these critical early years that he or she will develop their long-term attitude to school. Therefore all the focus is on creating a warm, happy and nurturing environment in which your child can develop. The Nursery should be an extension of home, a safe and cheerful place, full of reassurance, play, friends, support and imagination. Here they encourage the complete development of the whole child, helping them to mature into loving, independent, thoughtful individuals. While the emphasis for the child is on happiness and fun, behind the scenes, the planning of the curriculum and the general organisation of the school is carefully crafted to support every aspect of their development.

RECEPTION AND KEY STAGE 1 (AGES 4-7)
These critical years in your child’s education lay the foundations for all the learning to come. In these vital years, it is not only what but how a child learns that will have a huge impact on their future education. In the right environment, they will form positive attitudes to learning, understanding the difference between ‘I can’t do it’ and ‘I can’t do it yet’, building routes to confidence. They will learn to try, fail, dust themselves off and try again, equipping themselves for a lifetime of challenges. All children spend three years in the Infant Department where they are given a sound basic teaching in English, Maths and Science within a broader curriculum including Information Technology, Humanities, French, PE and the Arts. Certain subjects including Drama, Music, French, PE and swimming are specialist taught.

KEY STAGE 2 (AGES 7-11)
Building on the firm foundations of the younger years, children moving into Year 3 have developed the skills they need to be pro-active learners, with the confidence to ask for help when they need it and the desire to take on new challenges. Learning becomes more structured and pupils steadily build skills and techniques to assist in problem solving. They continue to support and challenge them, encouraging them to experiment, make mistakes and learn from them. The high teacher-to-pupil ratio continues to benefit the pupils as they tackle ever-more complex work. It gives our staff more time to really understand the needs of each student and offer the appropriate level of support, encouragement and guidance. This might take the form of extra help in a particular area, or providing extension work and additional stimulation to keep more able students engaged.

Features

Things to note

Expressive Arts and Design
It gives children the opportunity to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials. Children share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology. With the emphasis on fun and play, there is plenty of learning happening, and even the youngest children begin delving into the wonderful world of words and numbers, science and languages! There is time too for storytelling, creativity, music and physical activities. They have access to delightful outdoor play areas and enjoy adventures further afield in their Forest Learning sessions.

Wider opportunities
For the children, anything is possible, their future options as varied as they can imagine. They are only limited by what they know. So they try to give them as broad a range of opportunities as possible. A perfect way to do this is with after-school clubs, activities that may spark a new interest and lead down new paths. Recent Key Stage 2 clubs have included: Cookery, Cricket, Ballet, Modern & Tap, LAMDA, Choir, Orchestra, Basketball, Astro Games, Girls’ Football, Boys’ Football, Art, Manga Design, Gymnastics & Cheerleading, Nature, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths), Judo, Ball Sports, Chess, Sewing, Rugby, Batik, Construction, Eco, Rollerblading, Poetry and Mosaics.
