Curriculum
As a Catholic school, the precepts of Catholic education remain at the core. The key virtues of faith, hope love, charity, justice and solidarity are central to them, in order that children feel secure to learn and achieve in a safe environment. Catholic Social Teaching underpins the curriculum with Christ at the centre of all that they do. They believe in peace and human dignity, as well as the importance of the place in the contribution to the wider society. Catholic Social Teaching is based on the belief that God has a plan for creation, a plan to build his kingdom of peace, love and justice. The part in this plan involves every aspect of the lives, from the things they pray about, to how they live as a responsible global citizen. In doing so, they actively promote the common good and British values (democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs) to prepare the pupils for life in modern day Britain. We use Caritas in Action, which provides a unique cross-curriculum and multi key stage approach for embedding the principles of Catholic Social Teaching.
Send
SEN stands for Special Education Needs, whereas SEND stands for Special Education Needs and/or Disabilities. The term SEND is more inclusive. As it is a catch-all acronym to include pupils who do not have special learning needs, but do need extra provision due to a physical or sensory disability (for example, pupils who are deaf or need assistive devices such as a wheelchair or crutches to get around).Children can sometimes feel that they have some sort of learning barrier while at school and it is the job to make sure each child is supported. There are different ways in which they at St Georges Catholic Primary Voluntary Academy can support the students, such as in small groups, individually or having support staff within the classroom. They do all this with the advice support of a number of specialists at our school.
